One of the key things that pre-planning with Chatter Hands reminded me of was that crafting a good NDIS plan is not (just) about being able to put down your personal care needs. It is instead about thinking about the things that I do in my life, work, travel, and social connections.
A good plan will enable me to do this without being completely reliant on the physical supports of my family to make life happen. It's about moving away from the old system of support where having your support needs met meant having someone available to shower you in the morning/evening (at their scheduled time).
The main thing that made the majority of the planning process easier with Chatter Hands, and other people who care about my life as it is now, is that I talked about the things I do and how people support me, not about what I can't do.
I don't think that you will ever quite fully understand how different from previous experiences this pre-planning process was. It wasn't about coming from a place of having to fight for everything. It was more from the realisation that I start listing down what I need from a matter of fact point of view, rather than feeling grateful for what I receive.
